Mine Maniac was a fast-paced project with a tight six-month deadline, which presented several challenges. One of the main hurdles was designing a compelling multiplayer experience that could handle concurrent players mining different quarries without performance issues. To address this, we balanced the networking to run locally where possible and optimised the asset loading (ores) through heavy pooling. Additionally, balancing the in-game economy to ensure that players felt rewarded without making progression too easy required careful tuning and extensive play-testing. Despite these challenges, we successfully delivered an engaging mining simulation game that has been well-received by players.
